It’s beginning to look a lot like…

As I mentioned in my previous post, I absolutely LOVE Christmas. It’s what I wait for eagerly each year.

The lights, the music, the decor, the instantaneous shift of people’s moods. That magical combination makes for literally the happiest feeling that comes around once a year. (Sadly it’s also the season that flies by the fastest).

This will be the first Christmas that my son will be able to ‘understand’, I say understand and not ‘enjoy’ because last year he still enjoyed it but of course had no idea what was happening or what Christmas even was. Now he just turned TWO last month so this time around he can have some sort of grasp as to how much fun Christmas actually is, and WHAT it is.

I’ve already started him off with Rise of the guardians on the tele. (Oh no she let’s him watch tv.) Yes epic fail on my part because I was so adamant about not letting kids watch tv until they’re older than 2 years old. I then realised that the reason parents let their kids watch tv so soon is so they can actually get stuff done around the house. (People with house help won’t have this problem of course.) Unfortunately my son won’t SIT and watch unless I’m sitting there next to him. Not sure if this is because I didn’t let him start watching tv until he was 1 and so he didn’t get used to it. Ah well. At least I get 5 minutes sometimes to do something else.

Anyway, been googling Christmas movies for children. I must say, there are a lot less than I thought. Here are some of my faves though:

  1. Santa Claus (the movie 1985) – I know such an oldie but it was BRILLIANT for me when I was a kid.
  2. The HOME ALONE series. – Can’t go through one christmas without watching those of course.
  3. Elf – Not the biggest fan of Will Ferrell but hey, it’s colourful, it’s funny, why not.
  4. The Santa Clause – The first one is the best for me but for the sake of having other things to watch, the sequels aren’t THAT bad.
  5. White Christmas – My ULTIMATE favourite christmas film (Not exactly for kids though.)
  6. Miracle on 34th street- love the feel of that film.
  7. Fred Claus – Only saw this once, will try it again this year.
  8. Jack Frost (Michael Keaton) – Totally cried watching this.
  9. Merry Madagascar – I have not seen this yet. Damian will probably like this though.
  10. Christmas with the Kranks – A little christmas comedy
  11. This Christmas – Gotta love the music in this one.
  12. Arthur Christmas – I did actually like this one, will watch it again.
  13. Jingle All the way – (Arnold Schwarzenegger) Haven’t seen this in AAAAGGES. Will add this to the list.
  14. It’s a Wonderful life- One of those classic films that movie buffs have seen at least once in their life (I totally have not watched this yet.) Looking forward to this one.
  15. The Polar Express – Saw it once, I do not remember any of it.
  16. National Lampoons Christmas – Used to watch these with my dad, LOVED them

Okay so there are a lot of Christmas movies, but not a lot that a toddler would want to sit and watch!

I’ll probably do a series of ‘christmassy’ post in the next 2 months. Need to check out the christmas events for 2015 in Singapore and see if I can bring the little one to any of them.
